3 Ways to Get Fitter This Summer
Hey team,
Summer is here, and you already know what that means—longer days, sweatier sessions, and the perfect opportunity for you to get the fittest you’ve ever been. Whether you’re training for a big season or just want to feel more energized and strong, this one is for you.
This week, I’m sharing 3 simple tips to get fitter this summer. Let’s dive in and get after it.
1. Add extra runs to the end of every session. I do these twice a week.
It doesn’t need to be 45 runs and take a gazillion minutes.. just a few pushes to get comfortable playing when fatigued.
This is one of the most effective ways to build game-ready fitness. Why? Training when you’re fatigued forces your body to adapt to real match demands, where the late-game decisions and explosive efforts matter the most. When you’re tired, your form slips, your mind wonders, this is where you must push through. These final sprints condition your body and mind to keep going when most people slow down.
Once you’re exhausted? That’s when the real work begins.
2. Time your runs.
Keep a tracker in your notes app! Easy peasy!
This isn’t just about tracking numbers — it’s about pushing with a purpose. When you time your sprints, intervals, or even circuits, you bring accountability into your training. You can see concrete numbers demonstrating how much you are improving. When the clock is running, it pushes you to give just a little more.
3. Find an accountability partner
This could be a friend, a parent, a teammate, a coach. Someone who can keep you honest and responsible. Someone who is willing to stay firm and not let you slack off.
Have them time your runs for you. Let them help you so you can really focus on running without worrying about tracking your speed and recovery.
My mom spent every day with me in the summer time timing my runs for years. Knowing she was there kept me locked in. Knowing that she would never stand for me cheating a rep or sneaking extra rest. All I had to do was focus on running hard and getting better. Looking back, it wasn’t just her timing me—it was about the support, the structure, and the accountability that shaped the way I train today.
(P.s. thank you mom for standing there for hours with me. And sorry for cursing you out multiple times when you told me to go faster. lol. Love you.)
At the end of the day, getting fitter this summer doesn’t have to be complicated— it just takes consistency, effort, support, and a little bit of planning. It’s all about stacking the small wins! Day in + day out. Im right there with you, putting in the work.
